🌍 May 16, 2025 TURNING INWARD — THE DOOR OF LIBERATION IS WITHIN In the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra, the Buddha said: “Be a lamp unto yourself. Take refuge in yourself, take refuge in the Dharma, do not take refuge in anything else.” Many seek peace, enlightenment, or truth externally — through teachings, places, or others. But the Buddha gently reminds us: the gate to Nirvāṇa is already within, not elsewhere. Practice is not about gaining new truths. It is about clearing away illusions to rediscover the clarity that has always been present. Liberation does not come from accumulation, but from returning — to this breath, to this moment, to awareness itself. You don’t need to travel beyond galaxies. Sometimes, a single mindful pause is the doorway. 🍃 “The one who turns inward — walks the path with every step.”

🌀 Śūnyatā – The Emptiness of All Phenomena At the heart of Mahāyāna philosophy lies the profound insight of Śūnyatā — emptiness — as taught by Nāgārjuna, the great Indian philosopher and founder of the Madhyamaka (Middle Way) school. He taught that all phenomena are empty of inherent existence because: • They arise dependently (pratītyasamutpāda) • They lack any permanent, independent self • They are ever-changing, conditioned, and relational ⸻ 🌸 Emptiness does not mean nothingness. It means freedom from fixed views, from ego, from duality. It is the open space in which everything can arise, transform, and dissolve — like a dream, a reflection, or a rainbow. To realize emptiness is to see beyond illusion. To see beyond illusion is to approach awakening. ⸻ 🪷 “One who sees emptiness clearly — sees the Buddha.” — Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra

🌼 The Flower and the Smile — A Wordless Transmission One day, the Buddha silently held up a lotus flower in front of the assembly. He said nothing. The crowd was still. No one understood. Only Mahākāśyapa, the great disciple, smiled. The Buddha said: “I possess the Treasury of the True Dharma Eye, the Wondrous Mind of Nirvāṇa, the Reality Beyond Words, the Formless Transmission. I entrust it now to Kāśyapa.” ⸻ 🪷 Meaning beyond words: This moment marks the birth of Zen (Chan) Buddhism — a tradition of mind-to-mind transmission, beyond scriptures, beyond doctrines. The flower was Truth. The smile was Recognition. The silence was Teaching. Sometimes, the deepest realization cannot be said. It is only felt, as a quiet smile that blooms like a lotus at dawn. ⸻ 🕊️ “No words. No letters. A special transmission outside the scriptures.” — Zen saying
