I think it's pretty hard for most people to understand right now why FC's social graph is so powerful, so lemme try to graph-pill you: 1) Blockchain has some amazing tools to help move from our current top-down-authority world to a bottom-up-builder world 2) Unfortunately, those same tools can (and are) used to scam people 3) As a result of 2) most true believers can't onboard their personal networks in good faith because they'll get rugged 4) A social graph creates a layer of trust which can mitigate 3) As a small example, most DAOs fell apart last cycle because they were completely permissionless, and fell victim to non-value-aligned people coming in and extracting as much as they could. A trust graph could allow you to vet a new member based on your existing members. Now start to think about other places where you need trust: voting, hiring, travelling, etc. A trust graph can be really useful in these cases.

It’s a very lucky team whose first release is successful. For most, it’s going to require iteration. For that reason, founders need to maximize # of iterations. You can do this multiple ways: - reduce time-to-ship - increase runway I’ve worked with so many startups who hired fast and shipped slow. This is death.

Vitalik: An Ethereum Story Movie · 2024 · ★★★½☆ I quite enjoyed how it was a personal look at Vitalik rather than just a documentary about Ethereum. I’m not one for influencers but he inspired me. I don’t think it was a compelling narrative for people outside the ecosystem. Maybe that’s ok. Maybe I am wrong. Either way it was a decent flick and I’m glad I watched it in theatres. https://nook.social/content/65041e8c-e173-490f-9261-3c814c8b275f

Kindred Book · 1988 · ★★★★☆ Captivating - the book instantly gets you to relate to the main characters, especially Dana. It’s hard to put down. The ending…felt like it was missing something. Unsure why, it definitely resolved Dana’s internal conflict, but I felt like I wanted a bit more. Maybe that’s a good thing. https://nook.social/content/f2238a6f-4de0-475c-9b35-e4768efb759d

I’m currently searching for a new signature look. I went normcore 5 years ago when becoming a dad and realizing I didn’t want baby puke on my pieces. Now that I want to assert my identity, I find the seasonal pieces I wore are kind of played. I literally saw 3 people walking together wearing something I might have in the past. Anyway, inspiration encouraged! My aesthetic is rugged timeless.

@matthew and @yb’s rundown of channels made me pretty bullish about MM’s new approach. I’ve a proponent of public read, gated write (the only way you can create a community is to restrict membership). But this addition of channel casts not showing in the feed unless you’re a follower gives people way more control over their feed. Of course it’s just an experiment but I’m excited!

As a founder, I’m asking for your email address when you sign up for my product. I know, I know: something something decentralization. But there’s just no good way to re-engage wallets at this point in time. XMTP isn’t widely adopted, tokens/NFTs can get hidden by wallets, and lots of people aren’t even using wallet notifications. Email is cheap, ubiquitous, familiar, and battle tested. An email list is worth way more than a wallet list (or even an FC list).
