In the occupied territories, russians destroy all Ukrainian books, and teenagers are forming secret book clubs to read Ukrainian literature, risking their own physical safety and freedom by doing so. I know armed resistance is talked about more often, but this kind of cultural resistance under occupation - writing, reading and speaking the language when it’s forbidden, acquiring books, creating art with national symbols - is what keeps a lot of people going 🥺🫂❤️‍🩹

We will be in Ukraine starting next Saturday and will be focusing on aid deliveries to the frontlines, assisting medics and defenders. The specific locations will be determined once we can assess the conditions ⛑️🫂 We do not currently have any reasons to believe that any ceasefire will occur, so we are operating as usual. BUT if it does happen and aerial attacks are halted even temporarily, we, along with our volunteers, are prepared to assist our partner nonprofits in evacuating civilians and animals from villages that are currently unreachable.

Today is Alina’s birthday. She is one of the incredible frontline medics I’m supporting, and you all have helped provide many medical supplies for her (our most recent medical delivery was for her and her team as well) ⛑️🫂 She is not only saving lives on the frontlines in the Kherson region and treating wounded soldiers but also caring for civilians in nearby villages, as there are no functioning hospitals and it’s unsafe for them to travel to the city due to russian drone attacks. Proud to know her and to help as much as I can through @crystalhearts.

These are quotes from Oleksandra Matviichuk, a Ukrainian human rights lawyer and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, who has spent over a decade documenting the grim realities of war crimes on occupied territories. She uses her platform to expose the true nature of occupation - a form of war that inflicts relentless human suffering in cruel and often hidden ways. And I don’t think it could have been said any better. When people say Ukraine should just “give russia all the territories they want to achieve peace,” they know damn well that this is not peace - it’s simply authorized brutality and a continuation of war. Those who support it should be honest and openly admit that they simply support oppression, war crimes, and human rights violations as long as they remain conveniently hidden.

When we speak about our army currently fighting the russians, people always imagine some kind of professional military… but it’s students, journalists, dancers, poets, startup founders, farmers… I feel like this always somehow escapes people, everyone imagines some kind of professional war machine & doesn’t feel much empathy or compassion, when it’s so many regular people who lived happy lives, pursuing their passions and building careers, who had to jump in and learn how to fight and become medics when the genocidal invaders came. So, if you see this post, scroll down and check the civilian professions of these amazing people (I’m proud to know some of them IRL) and imagine yourself in their place. Sharing this as a reminder: when I say that @crystalhearts is helping our defenders, this is who I’m sending supplies to, people from all walks of life who are risking their lives defending Ukraine from invasion, they are the reason many Ukrainian cities are not under russian occupation.

Here is something that’s not talked about enough: more than 19.5k children have been abducted by russians from occupied cities, moved to russia, and placed for adoption (while their parents are still alive and searching for them). There are many task forces and nonprofits both in Ukraine and foreign countries working to find and return these children (using open-source information, including satellite imagery, social media posts, russian publications, and adoption ads). So far, only 1240 children have been returned to their parents ❤️‍🩹 This shows why surrendering to occupation never equals peace; the war crimes continue under occupation, and the kidnapping of children is one of them.
