Yesterday, russians hit an ambulance with medics inside using an FPV drone in one of the places we’re supposed to be heading to this morning. The vehicle was clearly marked and labeled “Emergency Medical Assistance,” yet they went ahead with another war crime. We’re brainstorming what to do, as there seem to be no safe entry points into that place anymore. So we’ll head to another location shortly and drop off supplies there first, then figure out what to do about this one and the nearby one. 😵‍💫⛑️

One of our stops will be in this area. I don’t see international press talking much about the Kharkiv region and what’s happening there. Our army is holding off russian assaults and their attempts to occupy more cities and villages, while they prepare for major attacks and constantly bomb everything nearby with guided aerial bombs, killing people with drones. We need to deliver supplies there and power up our medics with power stations, generators, and Starlink terminals so they don’t lose connection. Then we’ll keep heading down towards the Donetsk region.

Another step before any aid delivery is a full-on refresher on applying tourniquets to your own limbs and to others ⛑️ Even if you’ve had tactical medicine training (which every single person on our crew has), this skill needs to be at the level of reflex. You have to be able to do it without thinking; if you get hit, there will be pain, adrenaline, panic, and you’ll need to act fast, especially if you’re applying it to yourself and are on the verge of losing consciousness and bleeding out. Either way, this is a good skill to have - not just for work in a war zone, but in everyday life (Google the Ukrainian soldier who saved a stabbing victim in Venice, Italy, and prevented him from bleeding out). Even if you’re a civilian, knowing how to do this without hesitation can save someone’s life. (Also, saw this patch with Pepe and the tourniquet in a local coffee shop - it’s perfect 🐸🔥)

Last night, 19 russian drones were shot down by air defense over Kyiv. And now, a ballistic missile threat. They never fucking stop terrorizing people 🤬 Also, the place we’re heading to deliver some of the supplies to was just hit by guided aerial bombs. We’ll have to watch out for that tomorrow and Tuesday 😶‍🌫️

Finished packing for the “road trip” 🪖 I’ll be meeting other aid workers in Kyiv, and we’ll hit the road east towards the frontlines Sunday morning ⛑️🚗🇺🇦 While I’m in Kyiv on Saturday, I’ve set up some meetings with foreign journalists who cover the war - always really insightful conversations I look forward to 🫂

My friends from the Superhumans Center shared some videos with me earlier from Harry’s visit. It was so nice to see him make it out to Ukraine to support the center and all the injured Ukrainians who are currently recovering there (and our British friend Eddy!!!).
