To set them up you'll need to go to settings.
disable them and then re-enable them.

Now you should get a notification after the next time you chop, gather or stoke for when the action ends.

Price per hut shouldn’t increase as you play. Nor the cost to stoke fire. 
Many more would play if this was fixed.
