Shading requires different values (light to dark versions of a color). Use a range of tones in your drawing to create a three-dimensional effect. Start with light layers and gradually build darker tones. Tip: Don't just use black for shadows. Instead, use a darker version of your object's color, or even mix in complementary colors for a more natural look (e.g., purple for shading yellow).
