South Korea recognized Bitcoin as divisible property in divorce

South Korea has officially recognized digital currency assets as divisible property in divorce proceedings. According to IPG Legal, digital currencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) can be considered joint property of a couple and divided upon separation. This decision is based on the ruling of the Supreme Court in 2018 regarding the classification of virtual assets as property. Spouses can request a court investigation to discover hidden digital currency assets. The law also emphasizes greater transparency by requiring government officials to disclose their cryptocurrency holdings from June 2024.
