🗺️ Saxman Native Village is a small but culturally rich community located on Revillagigedo Island, near Ketchikan, in southeastern Alaska. This village is renowned for its preservation of Native Alaskan heritage, particularly that of the Tlingit people.
💮 Saxman is renowned for its impressive collection of totem poles. Totem Bight State Historical Park and Saxman Totem Park together house one of the largest collections of totem poles in the world. These totem poles, carved by local artisans, depict clan crests, historical events, and legends, serving as storytelling monuments.
🏚️ The Beaver Clan House is a replica of a traditional Tlingit clan house, providing insight into the historical living conditions and social structure of the Tlingit people.
📔 Saxman was founded in the late 19th century and named after Samuel Saxman, a Presbyterian teacher who drowned while attempting to reach the village.
