Has anyone tried building a rollup with native token not tied to the L1?
(Or more generally with no bridges to the L1 at all)

So $STRK or ETH can be used as gas on Starknet, is that what you were asking? With paymasters, any token could be used to pay for the gas. Should see zksync push that inovation forward.

Depends on how the L2 is constructed. A true L2 rollup is just a smart contract on Ethereum and would always have the native bridge.

So the broader idea I started with was, what if there're no bridges on an l2...
Framing it in terms of native tokens made sense cuz that's the first place you need bridges
