A new opt-in feature to find friends and grow your following. If you share your contacts with us, we'll store it safely and match people who know each other. 

On mobile, go to Search to get started. If we find people you know, you'll get a list of suggestions after a few minutes.

Tried it out, tapping connect doesn’t do anything (or at least doesn’t appear to)

Can’t tell if it’s a lack of UI feedback while processing thing or if it actually just didn’t work

Killed the app a couple of times and retried as well, no dice

You mean when you press the Connect inside the prompt you are not getting any indicators? Or do you mean Connect on the screen does not show you a prompt of any sorts.
