Trump and Bernie are surprisingly similar. Both understand that there's a huge swath of Americans that feel abandoned

It’s also why Trump is trading short-term pain on Wall Street if it means fixing Main Street

But there’s an easier solution to solve financial inequality 🧵

That’s why both Trump and Bernie — two politicians on opposite sides of the spectrum — resonate with the same pain

These people don't benefit from the Fed's moves to fix slowing growth, and they certainly don't benefit from increased globalization

But what if they could?

The biggest gains over the last decade have come from publicly-traded tech giants

Meta. Tesla. Amazon. Netflix. Google. Ironically, even Coinbase.

These companies built massive value privately — and by the time they IPO, the upside has mostly gone to VCs and insiders

This is what wealth inequality looks like in practice: The richest Americans aren’t just earning more — they’re accessing gatekept opportunities earlier

And the longer we keep the best opportunities gated for “accredited investors," the wider that wealth gap becomes

To be clear: protecting retail investors from scams still matters

But what happens when the rules themselves become the reason people can’t participate equally?

The good news is, under new leadership, the SEC seems more open to exploring alternatives that already exist

That includes new models for ownership and investment — especially those made possible through crypto and onchain entities

Done right, these aren’t just experiments. They could be the foundation for a more inclusive financial system

And that's massive 🇺🇸

To be honest, financial inclusion is not a right or left issue

It's also something I think Andrew Yang was ahead of his time on

This problem is only going to be exacerbated the faster technology evolves. We need to act now — and we need to democratize ownership and opportunity

That’s why I’m going to DC next week to meet with the SEC's Crypto Task Force

I’ll be advocating for policies that unlock ownership access — and legal structures that let everyone participate, not just those with the right connections or existing fortunes

I am hopeful that the model for community-ownership  we have pioneered @coinage will increasingly become the norm

Because we as a country need to open ownership to more people

Only ~60% of Americans own any stock at all

That means more than a third of the country is completely missing out on building long-term wealth

This isn’t just a stat — it’s the foundation of a financial system that feels closed to most people

Don't get me wrong, I am a strong believer of financial inclusion and the reason I got into crypto in the first place was the ability for all parties to enter without a hall pass from the sec.

But to say that we will reduce inequality by removing this is so oblivious to the problems causing inequality.
