re-reading one of avabear.xyz's posts and felt compelled to replace "therapist" with "friend" because this is exactly what great friends do. reminds me of two favorite steinbeck quotes: “you only want advice if it agrees with what you wanted to do anyways" "and now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good"

It's hard to balance the steinbeck advice quote with finding friends who you believe are aligned on values enough to trust their judgment. And even then, you need the reinforcement. I have a couple friends like this, but can't imagine it's easy to find more than a couple.
