I have (mostly unrelated) question...is Berkeley known as Cal only in NCAA? Any idea on the history of the naming?

Berkeley is the city that campus is in. University of California has 10 campuses, so it’s a way to indicate specifically.

Am aware of the UCs (I'm from SoCal) Just that the "Cal Bears" are the Berkeley team afaik. Perhaps Berkeley was the first UC so kept the moniker?
