A really random thing my dad taught me since I was a little kid like 5 years old was to never short in an irrational market and it's such great advice but looking back it's funny he was teaching a little kid that

My parents did not teach me this but I wish they had. 

I never actually shorted a market, but have not played plenty of times because it seems "unreasonably high" (i.e., New Zealand real estate), only to watch it double again.
