the inventors of rsa needed a chip to deploy the algo, but no such chip existed. so they built one. they found their hardware designs were so valuable on their own, spies might try to steal them they decided not to encrypt the designs though. actually *using* rsa was a pain in the ass crypto syndrome predates bitcoin

it’s called crypto you make money doing nothing, but feel like you lost money, and you’re more exhausted than if you’d just worked

reading about the early history of printing. i didn’t realize it was a boom and bust industry. most printers went broke. gutenberg did in his first year so: - new tech - giganerds (latin/greek scholars) - financial chaos - hostile state/church - “nothing new” (books were 1000s of years old) sound familiar?

diffie wanted to wrench cryptography away from the nsa because computers were going to permeate society, and without civilian cryptogtaphy, the right to privacy would die i want to wrench money away from the state because code is going to permeate money, and without non-state money, the right to transact will die

this is frequently cited as a justification for centralized services: “what if you lose your private key though?” the reality is: there’s no difference. you think the megacorps help you recover your account? actually, crypto’s better in this regard. its auth requirements don’t *change* on a corporate whim
