In a roundtable discussion on “The Future of Financial Market Infrastructure” at ChainLink's SmartCon 2024 Hong Kong conference, Tom Menner, CTO of SBl, said, “SBI has been involved in a significant number of CBDC projects around the world, and the question that arises is what is the future of the commercialization of these potential projects? On the one hand, we have demonstrated that the technology can be effective, both in terms of CBDCs and in terms of the types of assets in the capital markets; but more importantly, are these moves an improvement on the existing financial regulatory regime? This is more worthy of our consideration.

The commercialization of CBDCs hinges on integrating them seamlessly with current regulatory frameworks. Balancing innovation with regulation will be key to realizing their full potential in transforming global finance.
