Easy to look at and ask, "Aren't those just advisory shares?" - but building a firm around it seems like a much bigger endeavor

Dan was the Talent Partner at Greylock before starting this, so kinda fits his narrative

It's definitely an interesting idea, and I think you should try it!

The hard thing about this would be the lack of diversification - VCs and angels typically invest in many companies so they can afford for 9 out of 10 to go to zero

In this case, you'd be devoting a year of your life to each company, maybe getting less equity than you'd get if you were a FT employee, *and* you'd be "making fewer investments" than a fund/angel would → may be hard to get the returns you imagine

this is cool. i think work + small check (for skin in the game), which could convert into a larger slice of equity after a year of working together might work well.
