Why was the cannon named Katyusha? During the battle, the Katyusha rockets used exclusively M-8 shells, in the "KAT" modification (thermite). The temperature at the explosion site instantly rose to 4,000 degrees Celsius. It was the use of these shells that was the root cause of the origin of the very name "Katyusha".
