1/ Do you think this is lip service? Though the guise of Free Speech? An outcome of the EU lawsuit against FB? Recent regulation around COPAA compliance? Getting doxxed for supporting Government Coups and Bad Actor collusion? Body dysmorphia and negativity bias tuned through their algorithms? A heavy reliance on ad models and targeting probabilistically with 2nd and 3rd party cookie data. Removing formal moderation and taking a page from the X playbook is also an outcome of cost cutting and not outsourcing content moderation to contract workers and management consultants. https://www.axios.com/2025/01/07/meta-ends-fact-checking-zuckerberg-trump

2/ What they're not telling you at the moment is that they also have trained their LLM on what will drive the most engagement (ie. page views). This business model may need to be radically rethought. Crowdsourcing truth and consensus can also create a very dangerous Vox Populai bordering on New Speak from 1984. Rome all over again. We're approaching a new era of technocratic plutocracy, with ethics and civics deterministically shaped by centralized platforms.
