Pan, in Greek mythology, is the god of the wild, shepherds, flocks, nature, rustic music, and fertility. Often depicted as half-man, half-goat, with the legs, horns, and beard of a goat, Pan is associated with the untamed wilderness. He is the son of Hermes and a nymph. Pan's music on his pipes (syrinx) could inspire panic (a term derived from his name) in those who heard it. He roamed the mountains and forests of Arcadia, playing his flute and pursuing nymphs. Pan symbolizes the vital force of nature. 9 replies
