Just created my Farcaster account, and as a newbie, I ran into some bumps along the way that could be roadblocks for others looking to get on-chain. 

Here’s my experience and a few thoughts to make it smoother! 🧵

Can't signup on Desktop: 
Right now signing-up on Farcaster is mobile-only. 

While I love my phone, forcing me to download an app just to signup could increase user drop off rates!

Email verification hiccup: 
I mistakenly entered an incorrect email during sign-up. After correcting it, the app still sent the verification link to the old address. 

This forced me to restart the whole process—definitely not ideal!

Payment options: 
I was surprised to find that there’s no option to pay gas fees via crypto wallet. For a web3 platform, this feels a bit off. 

I ended up using Google Pay instead which is okay. But I think we should allow for more options, so that we maintain the ethos of decentralisation!

Profile picture upload: 
Setting my profile picture was a bit of a puzzle! There’s no option to resize photos, so I had to try multiple images before finding one that fit.

When I tried to add a photo to my posts, I encountered the same issue—no resize or crop option. A little guidance here would go a long way!

Messaging errors: 
I encountered persistent issues where the inbox wouldn't load, and it kept asking me to refresh or debug. 

This was really frustrating and could be discouraging for new users.

As we discuss bringing more people into the web3 space, it’s crucial to consider how these UX hurdles can deter potential users from diving in. 

If signing up feels like a chore compared to traditional apps, we might lose so many valuable participants!

As I go through my journey of onboarding more folks to this thriving and fun ecosystem of Web3, I realize this is where we diverge from the retail participants.
