Today's pizza began to be prepared in Naples, Italy in the 18th or early 19th century. The word pizza was recorded for the first time in 977 AD in Gaeta and successively in different regions of central and southern Italy. Pizza has been eaten mainly in Italy and elsewhere by Italian immigrants.
