@your-papa Volkswagen Beetle
The Story of the Volkswagen Beetle: From Humble Beginnings to Global Fame
In the 1930s, Germany faced a challenge: creating an affordable car for the average family. Adolf Hitler envisioned a "people's car" ("Volkswagen" in German), and Ferdinand Porsche, a gifted engineer, was tasked with designing it. The result was a small, round, and robust vehicle with a distinctive shape that could seat five people, travel at 100 km/h, and cost just 990 Reichsmarks—a price within reach of most working-class families.
However, World War II interrupted production, and the Beetle’s early journey was overshadowed by the conflict. The factory, initially used for military vehicles, was left in ruins by the war’s end. But in 1945, the British military revived the factory to produce Beetles for their use, setting the stage for its global renaissance. 0 reply
