still feeling weird about how channels work on farcaster. a few things that make it frustrating: ยท memberships lock exploration: instead of encouraging me to explore new channels, the membership system made me stick to the ones i'm already in. ยท managing pinned frames is annoying: i need to keep the frame pinned in /groupies so people can join, meaning i can't pin other casts to the channel for visibility. ยท notifications are easy to miss: i never check the channel notifications tab, a friend had to message me to finally see and accept their invite. ยท posting friction: tried posting in /nature yesterday but wasn't able to since i wasn't a member โ€” the process of going to the channel, finding how to join, then coming back to write the cast again is too much, so it's easier to cast no-channel instead. am i doing something wrong here, or is this a shared experience? i miss the old farcaster, where i could just explore and post freely in different channels.

Nope, I hate it too. Waaaaay to much friction, can't believe they thought this structure was good. I don't even bother with channels anymore because of it. Tried to post in /base months ago, saw the membership block and never returned.

have you seen @modbot ? and I think there is another option but I don't remember the name - you can make the "join" link into the official channel link up in the channel info, and then that will free up your pinned post to be other fun things

To my knowledge youโ€™re doing nothing wrong, Iโ€™ve had a very similar experience. Was going to post in a channel last night, wasnโ€™t a member. Now have a friend asking the owner to add me (they donโ€™t have a frame in the forefront to become a member). Disincentives exploring new channels which in turn makes it harder to follow new people, etc

Yea all the change made in channels definitely made me use my own less and others I subbed to. That whole be a member to post thing was also such a brash way of changing it on the fly (publicly).

Completely agree with you hermano That's what stopped a lot of my friends from being more active, those channel changes discouraged a lot of people

Worst thing to ever happen on warpcast was the invite to cast thing. I have a lot of channels I used to love and now I can't cast cause I don't even know who to ask for an invite ): I miss /cinema-stills

Based take I agree. Copying in @pichi bc she has some Gud takes/consolidates sentiment My biggest is the last one about /nature. Posting in channels should always be simple. At a bear min you can post there and once approved it is shown in the channel instead of no feed

i share the feeling. stumbled upon new channels and wanted to cast but having to go to the membership process was too much. luckily there is the /shower-thoughts channel for random casts

Agree this is my biggest turn off from farcaster and a lot of new users as well. No new users want to subscribe to cast.

Nah, the changes are shit. You can put a join hyperlink at the top in the channel description to save pinning a cast if that helps. There's nothing worse than posting friction - it disables the sole purpose of having channels at all in mt opinion.
