how i made over $200k on farcaster. (and why it changed my life forever). a lot has changed since i joined farcaster — and that's exactly what makes it so dope. you can feel the evolution happening every day. the team is literally building this thing brick by brick in public. i first heard about farcaster in 2022. thought it was cool, but didn't pay it much attention — i was finally getting some traction on twitter. then i heard about it again last year when @greekdx posted about this thing called $DEGEN. didn't really understand what it was, but it caught my attention enough to get a farcaster account and see what was up.

when i realized how the tipping system worked, it sounded fun. i thought it would be fun to be a digital street artist, so i casted asking for tips in exchange for custom pfp drawings in my own style. first cast got me 20 people asking for pfps, the next one, 30. then 50...i quickly realized i was onto something. what made warpcast special back then was the support for .gif pfps — the timeline felt alive. everyone had a moving avatar. so i leveled up: started animating them, adding my signature /trippy touch. demand exploded, everyone and their mother wanted an animated pfp. a bunch of people in my dms offered to pay good money, but it didn’t feel quite right to sell them privately — so i made it fair. came up with a raffle system, where people tipped $DEGEN for a ticket, and i'd pick 3 winners after 24hs.

the trippy pfp raffles went crazy, and before i knew it, i had earned around $18k in my first month. not only was i getting paid, but everybody on farcaster was rocking a yon pfp! as demand grew, so did the ticket prices. i started drawing more and more and stacking up the coins, too. i was committed to making farcaster as trippy as possible. kept grinding and ended up as the #1 degen king on the leaderboard for most of the month — until @perl stole my spot just before the month ended. ended up finishing #2, cashing out $180k, which quickly turned into $350k in a matter of days as degen was in its prime.

but degen went through a lot of changes during those months. as interest grew, people were inviting anyone and everyone to the app just to get tipped some $DEGEN, which led to bots and farmers getting involved. the lack of communication from degen made it hard for people, including myself, to feel comfortable holding onto so much. at the same time, warpcast decided to stop supporting animated pfps because some android phones couldn't handle them, causing crashes within the app. that was the saddest day in a social platform's history for me. it felt like a cold stab in the back — no warning, just gone. finito. me and the whole trippy community didn't even get to say goodbye to our animated selves. then degen introduced staking, which I personally wasn't into. figured it was time to let go, so i staked around 250k and sold the rest in chunks over a few weeks, knowing that it was going to change my life for good.

now, $DEGEN and @jacek have shown us they're here to stay as a farcaster staple. it was probably the most massive onboarding event to ever happen on farcaster, and it's a project that will forever be respected by the community. i used the money earned to move from argentina to los angeles for 3 months, which later turned into 6, to focus on my art career and meet people from farcaster. ended up meeting some of the best people i've ever come across, and forming friendships that will for sure last forever. 📸 by @latsko.eth
