@garrett and I talked about this last week. He mentioned a few people have experimented with something. Spitballing and probably gaps in thinking: But I think something along the lines of claim 75% of your drop today or get 100% by claiming 50% and lock up other 50% for X amount of time. Something along the lines of above could be healthier so token isn’t down only. But also probably some flaws in thinking. Just think more design space here. But also hard because so many people have done it a certain way so more predictable/straight foward.

There's not a one size fits all approach so it depends on the project and what their value prop is or what the token is used for (if anything) One thing that I do think is important regardless is that a token has ~50%+ of supply circulating at launch Fascinating design space though

distribution mechanism is important but without any incentive to hold, airdrops will always categorically be considered free money & thus will be farmed & immediately liquidated 9 out of 10 times (the tokens are intrinsically worthless) its easy to blame gary re regulation but there are plenty of other avenues that can be taken what you’re mentioning here is a similar approach to the lottery outside of the lockup & could offset some of the immediate sell pressure but more likely would just result in long tail downward pressure so the question becomes fall off a cliff now or bleed out slowly—which is better? i think that comes down to what kind of traders you want to attract; re chart patterning & number of holders, both of which i think play little into the decision of investors if they know how many holders are locked up i think the question to ask is not how to prevent sellers but how to backfill those with more buyers

So far, most projects with vesting have implemented it due to liquidity shortages and fears of dumping. There is also a belief among users that as long as vesting continues, the price will keep dropping because constant selling pressure shocks will be created.
