on ETH POS - are there no incentives for running a full node without staking 32 ETH ie not a validator? and does that mean that there will be more nodes running through centralized services that pool together assets to make up 32 ETH rather than solo validators staking 32 ETH?

For a specific example like wallet balance, if you’re running your own node, would it ever be possible to for there to be a discrepancy between what your own node thinks is your balance vs what a 3rd party like Infura or Alchemy thinks is your balance?

Fwiw there are no $ incentives for running an eth1 node or a bitcoin node if not mining, and there’s still a robust set of thousands around the world

There's the incentive of running a node for the data and interacting with the chain. Either self-hosted or paying someone like Alchemy. For staking you need a multiple of 32E but there's liquid staking like RocketPool who co-invest to have diversity in nodes.
