Diego D’Almagro, conqueror of Chile, records, in 1535, that Indians from that region stated that there was a vast land, above two large rivers, inhabited only by women, whose queen was called Gauboymilla. Gabriel Soares de Souza, in the year 1587, reports that the Ubirajara Indians, from the backlands of Bahia, reported that “there is always war with some women who say they have only one breast, who fight with bows and arrows, and govern and govern themselves without their husbands, as they say of the Amazons.” Highlight is Carvajal's quote about these Amazons building their homes in stone. Some more stories: Cristóbal de Acuna, in 1639, reports that, in the viceroyalty of Nova Ganada (Colombia), near Patos, indigenous people of different origins affirmed the existence of lands populated only by women.
