any of you here watch the new mr and mrs smith on prime? loved that beautiful brownstone (and all the other houses), but learned this morning that the interior of that house were just stage build outs and not 'real'! https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/new-york-brownstone-mr-and-mrs-smith

Hey! Ex Star Trek set designer here. 🙋♀️ *most* interiors you see (and a lot of exteriors) on big tv shows and movies are built on a sound stage.

You also have the benefit of “wilding” walls (being able to remove a wall(s) so that you can set up a camera for a particular shot or allow for easier crew access). It’s so much easier than shooting on location. But stage sets often mimic / reproduce real locations.

So cool and totally makes sense, thank you for sharing— and what a cool job experience :) Favorite set you’ve been part of designing??

Ohh good Q! This was earlier in my career and I had a small role in what was very much a team effort, but I absolutely loved the grandeur, intricacy, and idiosyncrasy of Hargreaves’ living room in Umbrella Academy. That was wild!
