Dubai’s blockchain-based government system aims to enhance efficiency and transparency but faces data silo challenges. Despite initiatives like the Dubai Blockchain Strategy, which targets seamless data sharing across entities, legacy systems and fragmented infrastructure hinder interoperability. Centralized databases and restrictive network protocols limit real-time data exchange, creating isolated data pools. For instance, the Dubai Economic Department’s blockchain pilot shows promise but struggles to integrate with other government registries. To address this, Dubai is exploring Hyperledger Fabric and unified platforms like the Digital Silk Road to break down silos, ensuring secure, decentralized data flow. However, achieving full integration requires overcoming governance complexities and standardizing protocols across sectors, enabling a truly connected smart government ecosystem.
