how does the routing work? 

Back in the day at bungee exchange, we had realised the best way to go about optimal routing is making it an auction

user quotes estimated returns, and protocol quote their best prices whichever is the closest to user’s requirement gets finalized. 

drawback is, this design needs high volume. So, adding a peer to peer option like 1inch would ideally fix it.
