A book that I regularly reread, especially during periods when I find myself caught up in the frenzy of 'everything, right now,' or when I need to step back and reflect or have doubts about a project. Written in 1910, just after his first abstract work.

1/2 "An artwork is not beautiful, pleasing, or agreeable. It is not there because of its appearance or form that delights our senses. Its value is not aesthetic. An artwork is good when it is capable of eliciting vibrations of the soul, since art is the language of the soul and that is the only thing."

2/2 "Art can reach its highest level when it frees itself from its subordination to nature, when it can become absolute creation and no longer merely imitate forms from the natural model." Excerpts from the preface by Philippe Sers in 1988. (Fr / trad)
