Joanna @sereneobscurity(°Gujarat) started posting moody photos on Instagram in 2013, finding beauty as an extra layer over dark undercurrents. “I don’t belong here” is a self-portrait expressing the feeling of being left out, being in a room full of people and feeling out of place. It went viral in 2020.

Joanna @sereneobscurity creates new stories and by juxtaposing a self-portrait with an image from everyday life. She loves to observe small details and merges these with her own image, in ethereal double-exposure images. She show us that we can find beauty everywhere.

Joanna @sereneobscurity 's artwork expresses feelings we all have (sometimes) but can’t really get grip on/put into words. "The emotions that come up are recognizable and relatable, almost in an eerie way. Like not feeling heard or overlooked & how to recover from that." (@ninaknaack art review).

Joanna @sereneobscurity : "If people look at my art and feel something even for a passing, fleeting, brief moment, that’s enough.” And as a strong last statement: “Validation is nice, but do not live for it.“
