Should charts be simple (just the line) or complex (gradients, split colors, min/max values etc)

I believe that charts can be both simple and complex, depending on the context and the audience. Simple line charts are great for quickly conveying data trends, while complex charts with gradients, split colors, and other visual elements can add depth and nuance to the data presentation.
