Electricity prices in Norway have risen by 20% due to Bitcoin miners
The cryptocurrency mining center opened in Hadsel in the spring of 2022, and locals immediately turned against the company because of the noise generated by the equipment. Norwegians were happy about the ensuing silence, but they faced an unexpected problem. The cost of electricity increased sharply by 20%, because the energy company Noranett had to compensate for a significant drop in income due to the curtailment of bitcoin mining. The data center consumed about 80 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, which is about 40% of the power consumed in Hadsel.
