Ok I eventually need to get some packs then! I only have that one Deathcoil for now. Is there a maximum slot number you can have active at the same time?

The common packs have 5 Farmon (creatures). Legendary packs have 10 creatures with 1 guaranteed holo (rare farmon with perfect starting stats)

Farmon are used in a hunting PVE game that earns Fargold (in game currency) and Farcade points 

And then there are weekly PvP Arena battles for cash prizes (automated battles your Farmon fight in)
