Loss is a forcing function for appreciation When you lose a loved on, you really realize how much you loved them, and appreciated them When you lose your health, you really appreciate how much your health matters to you When you become an adult, you really appreciate what your parents did for you to be here

Years ago I was doing a long hike (5 weeks) and beyond just appreciating the fact that I was able to pay for and set aside time to do so, I focused the feeling of being able-bodied and healthy enough to do something like that. Really tried to commit the feeling to memory. I still do that from time to time.
