In 1969, the US Department of Defense launched a project called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), which became the forerunner of the modern Internet. The aim of the project was to create a network capable of transferring data between different computers even in the event of damage to some communication nodes, which could ensure reliable communication in a military conflict.
