seems there are lots of immigrants here (I’m the daughter of one!). some random Qs I can’t shake: 1. what parts of current immigration discussion are the most important to you? 2. why/why not should we distinguish between legal v illegal immigration? 3. who do you think is most affected by immigration in the US?

What a great topic, thanks for prompting the convo. 1. Most important: migration is natural. Species migrate to find the best conditions to live, there are no such things as countries and borders, those are a human social construct.

2. Therefore the idea that some humans are more worthy of moving is “unnatural”, from my perspective. Legal vs ilegal immigration is a discourse connected to the idea of scarcity, influenced by classism and racism. If you have money and if you’re from certain countries, you can come.

This applies to every “developed” country, not only the US. An example are digital nomads from these countries moving to “underdeveloped” affecting locals. But that is not an issue, the issue are people at any border trying to find a bette replace to improve their life.
