That’s very cool, Andrea. I’m messing around with CAs these days, trying to get them to make something nice (and adding to my toolbox). But I have no idea how you got them to do this!

Exactly, with CA you can have rules that generate too random pattern, rules that generate too simple pattern, then there is the "edge of chaos" where interesting things happen.

Thanks, Andrea! I’ll give that a read. I’ve been working on a framework to make pretty much any kind of CA because they seem to be kind of handy for generating patterns that aren’t too regular but not totally random either.
