it doesn’t outlast death so nothing happens to it after death. death guarantees the terminus of consciousness.

then how can it end?

If you mean by consciousness “all consciousness,” all experiencing of consciousness in the universe, then it ends when the last conscious thing dies. But of course it exists as a permanent frozen block of spacetime and is forever in another sense.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by consciousness. If you mean a the unified field of sensation and thought presented to an individual from waking up through sleep, it’s going to be tied to a body and set of memories. That person becomes permanently unconscious on death.
