what do you think happens to consciousness after the death? include 🍄 emoji in your reply to indicate that you've experienced psychedelics!

Either something happens or nothing happens. I’m fine with either, considering either outcome is beyond our comprehension at this moment. Even Marcus Aurelius acknowledged that we are either “dispersed to atoms or return to the gods..” It’s fun to think of possibilities but foolish to bet on a hunch. 🍄

Who knows what he encountered on campaign or what his physicians prescribed him? His territory had vast quantities of cannabis and amanita, and locals with regional knowledge. I’d be shocked if the curious minded weren’t experimenting.

also ancient greeks and romans did have the rite of passage with psychedelics (e.g., Socrates, Aristotle, etc) so i guess you're right that we can be almost certain he did substances

He does allude to bitter tinctures & salves as a prescription for ailments, & gets fairly abstract in his musings about virtue and life’s challenges being a sort of prescription (or curriculum) of life… that regardless of the result, death levels us all. Then again I don’t think they believed in an afterlife.

i can actually see how they would turn to believing in an afterlife after the psychedelic experiences 🤔 why don't you think they've believed?

I’ll have to cite my source, and I’m probably mis-recalling… but I have a vague recollection of the belief in the pantheon of gods of the time didn’t have a heaven-esque afterlife… just a neutral, underworld parking lot for souls.
