Before trekking with gorillas, I’ll spend time in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, staying at the Hôtel des Mille Collines. This hotel became a refuge during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, a story depicted in the 2004 film Hotel Rwanda starring Don Cheadle. I didn’t realize its historical significance when I booked but now feel inspired to embrace this history. I plan to visit the Kigali Genocide Museum to deepen my understanding. Since the conflict, Rwanda has made remarkable strides toward peace and prosperity. I love that Kigali’s goals include “happy and healthy residents.” A city is its people, and that’s a goal worth celebrating! Countdown to flight day: 98! 🦍

OMG...speaking about dreams.... I made it to South Africa, Victoria Falls and took a cruise on the Chobe River...probably the best trip of my life. I promised myself to go back to Africa some day to explore Uganda or Rwanda to see gorillas...I can't wait to hear about your experience!

Your trip sounds pretty amazing too. Do you have a favorite memory from South Africa?? I've imagined this experience for so long; I'm glad everything is lining up for it to happen next year.
