Update on my plans to release a token-gated journal writing: Today I learned that @paragraph deprecated the token gating feature last month. (See the comments for more info if you missed this announcement, as I did). Oy. It hadn't even occurred to me that this might be an issue. So I'll need to take time to give further thought to other options for token-gating in the future. For tomorrow's release, I'll just send the private link to all the token holders + early bidders via DCs in a group chat. https://warpcast.com/danicaswanson/0xd291823b

I know, I was also very frustrated when I found that out. Seemed like a completely unnecessary removal of a feature that was fairly unique across web3 (writing token gating). Seems to me they're trying to compete more with zora for a mint to read or just a mint to own post, rather than using it as a community building platform, which, imo, defeats a large part of a newsletter platform like that...

I found it baffling and frustrating too, though I respect the team's vision so I'll keep an open mind. It sounds like they plan to emphasize the collectibles aspect more, but that doesn't sound encouraging. In the past few months I've seen a steep decrease in the number of people minting my posts on Paragraph. My situation may not be typical, but in any case I don't see much evidence that collectibles will ever amount to more than supplementary revenue at best for most long-form writing. But again, I'm open to being convinced otherwise.
