TLDR: +500k DEGEN of the 4.5M total is lost per day due to over-staking. See Dune query below. 👇🏼 

Long read:
Currently if you stake more DEGEN than is needed for a 10k allowance the excess allowance is still allocated to you. You are just not able to tip it so these DEGEN are lost.

A better way would be to distribute these excess $DEGEN to the stakers who have <10k allowances.

Since some over-stake Degen, part of the tip allowance pool becomes unavailable to everyone. Any ideas on a fair way to distribute those locked tip allowances to both over-stakers and other users? Someone staking a few million Degen should get some perks. We’d love to hear your thoughts!

An aside, why did people think to overtake, just for the sake of it? People are weird. Bit I agree with @wake.eth  / @reneecampbell

one angle is to play against the relock-reset. consider: zoz stakerd 15m immediately. insodoing, setting the high water mark for everyone. eventually it will cost 2m or more for an allowance. because most are topping up as they go, like me, my unlock is much later than zoz's because of the reset. so staking more, earlier, is a hedge against that eventual necessity. zoz will unlock their degen before most other stakers.

I assume as people earn they’ll use what they need and stake the rest.

So yeah,  that’s a definitely a smart play.
