1. Don't limit yourself to the "twitter client" pov. Your Farcaster app does not have to use casts. Think of DCs as a farcaster app (ok, they will move to the protocol layer, but it's an interesting thought experiment) that does not use casts. Or warps.

2. I think that protocol-level notifications are an important primitive to build apps on top of Farcaster. Notifications seem obvious when your app is around casts and protocol primitives (likes, follows), but they are very difficult when your app is something else. cc @dwr.eth @v

Protocol-level DCs may be a good opportunity to also create protocol-level notifications as a variant of DCs.
