One of the things I used to love about ⚽ football ⚽ was the simplicity of the Laws of the Game and how infrequently changes were introduced. Outside of a rewrite in 1997 mostly to clarify the laws this has remained true until about 2016/17. Now it feels like a constant stream of changes... The money involved is poisoning the tradition of the beautiful game. "UEFA will enter discussions with FIFA and IFAB to determine whether the rule should be reviewed in cases where a double touch is clearly unintentional." https://www.uefa.com/news-media/news/0297-1d449595df1f-e4e8a42fabeb-1000--uefa-statement-on-var-decision-at-atletico-de-madrid-vs-re/

One of the most interesting things I've listened to: > The backpass law might seem like a pretty subtle tweak to the rules of soccer, but over time it would completely transform the game in ways that FIFA could never have envisioned. This little rule change would become one of the most consequential in the history of the sport, and it would force nearly every player on the field to adapt. https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/unsure-footing/
