Cities on top of cities, on top of cities... Τhe Acropolis Museum was built to host and exhibit findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens (mostly 7th and the 6th centuries BC). While building the Museum, they found even older human activities. > [...] the area accommodates daily life and human activities from the 4th millennium BC to the 12th cent. AD. Roads, houses, baths, workshops and tombs make up the complex picture of this archaeological site, with the best preserved remains dating from late antiquity. [...] Today only part of what has been unearthed by the excavations is visible on the Makrygiannis plot [...] Further remains are preserved beneath a protective fill, while other sections were removed to make way for construction of the Museum’s underground levels and the Metro’s Acropolis Station. https://www.theacropolismuseum.gr/en/exhibit-halls/archaeological-excavation
