One of the most significant challenges in remix culture is determining and respecting ownership rights. Blockchain-based Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) can offer a clear way to track who owns the original work and any subsequent remixes or derivatives. Each time someone creates a remix, a new NFT could be minted that represents the remix or derivative work. Here's how this could work: Original Work: The original creator mints an NFT that represents their work and attaches it to the blockchain with metadata, which could include details such as copyright information, licensing, and any permissions for remixes. Remix and Attribution: When someone creates a remix, they can mint a new NFT for the derivative work, which references the original NFT. This could allow for transparent attribution, showing a clear chain of authorship and collaboration. Smart Contracts for Royalties: Smart contracts could be coded to ensure that everyone involved in the remix chain receives fair compensation based on predefined splits.
