What book helped you most understand how western culture ended up at this point (widespread liberalism + democracy + capitalism)?

I feel like books are overrated for this and real-world experience with cultures is more underrated. I don't just mean going to and living in different places, I also even mean crypto communities. Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc also have values and have pressures that shape but sometimes risk compromising those values...

And we can learn a lot from seeing the responses to existing communities on all kinds of scales to pressures and threats, to better understand under what conditions liberalism, capitalism, etc best thrive.
