I think the bitcoin devs should probably keep PoW and the 21m limit for now, but maintain a fork that switches to some kind of hybrid PoS that keeps enough PoW so that PoW fans still feel like it's Backed By Thermodynamics™ but where PoS provides most of the security, so they can switch to it once there's a problem

POS has a lot of advantages over POW but both definitely have their place.

And yes most of us myself included have very limited understanding of the underlying tech behind it.

It's really sad to see. But tbh we just need to get the crypto part out of the way of the user so only the devs are left to deal with it (and maybe not even them) - like in web2. If a non technical person needed to deal with http, ssl, smtp and ftp all day long, most wouldn't understand anything either.

Remember this is the same community that hails rebranded pet rocks as the greatest innovation ever (ordinals)
